(The Verdict is for CS2x the synth; the Review is for CS2x the instrument)

Yamaha as a company is a great one. And CS2x as a cheap tool for easy music creation is excellent. Lots of good sounding samples that can be routed thru decent filters and effects result in a landscape of sounds that can be used here and there and everywhere. The editing is really straightforward and not a pain in the ass, which might be the case with other sample-based units. I can't really say a bad word about CS2x [I'm just wondering how cool the CS6x must be...], the only thing that bears marks of disappointment is the lack of Filter EG Depth value.

Other than that, the CS2x is like a traditional synth, with sampled waveforms instead of oscillators (so it's a Rompler, simply...). Of course the "oscillators" (sic) don't sound as juicy and rich in low frequencies as a real VA synth does, but you can stack up to 4 samples per voice and sometimes the trick works just fine. Nevertheless, don't expect that you'll be able to fool a connoisseur of analogue sound, or vent all your fury with this unit, there's a lot of deeper and meaner synths out there.You don't need to be a professional either to say that things like piano are a bit unrealistic (XG), but nonetheless it's enough to make you start composing and arranging notes. Eventually, after tweaking for a little while you can have a complete score for your movie, and 50% of mortals won't recognize it as 'unprofessional'. You know, you can't go fully 'professional' in a professional sense of this word for $300, again - don't expect miracles, you won't be getting Alan Silvestri sound out of this thing, I need to stress that. The effects won't blow your mind either, since to buy a genuine chorus or delay unit you'd pay the same amount you pay for the entire CS2x.

For what it's supposed to be, it's great - nice choice as a starter board for a beginner (who understands the basics and the idea of Offsetting), nice choice for a musician who likes to sprinkle his synth-songs with something non-synthy, and once again a nice choice for someone who wants to have fun with variety of sounds, not necessarily of Kurzweil grandeur. If you have more dough, I guess you should enter the next level and go for the CS6x. If you're an experienced synth-player, I don't think the CS2x will impress you in any way. Compared to all the Nord Leads, JP-Rolands, AN1x-Yamahas, the CS2x is plastic pop - or poop.

Ogolnie rzecz biorac nie moge powiedziec zlego slowa o CS2x [zastanawiam sie jak bardzo fajna CS6x musi byc], jedyna rzecz jaka chcialbym wpisac na liste zyczen, to kontrola glebokosci obwiedni filtra, ktorej tutaj nie ma.

Technicznie CS2x to cos w rodzaju tradycyjnego syntezatora, tyle ze zamiast tradycyjnych ksztaltow fali mamy sample [no "Rompler" po prostu...co tu gadac]. Oczywiscie sawwave i jej podobne to tylko cienie tych znanych z VA z krwi i kosci, ale mozna nalozyc 4 sample na siebie i czasami trik sie udaje. Nie spodziewaj sie jednak, ze omamisz konesera analogowego brzmienia, lub ze model ten pozwoli ci wyproznic sie z pokladow agresji do dna. Do tego celu stworzone zostaly raczej inne modele.
Nie musisz byc takze profesjonalista by stwierdzic, ze pianinko brzmi 'troche' nierealistycznie (XG), mimo to jest w sam raz by zaczac aranzowac sobie nuty. Po dluzszym kreceniu mozesz uzbierac caly soundtrack do swojego filmu i 50% ludzi nie okresli go jako 'nieprofesjonalny'. Bo przeciez nie mozesz osiagnac 100% 'profesjonalnosci' w 'profesjonalnym' tego slowa znaczeniu za 1000zl, podkreslam - nie oczekuj cudow ani dzwiekow a la Alan Silvestri. Efekty tez nie rozwala Ci paly, bo przeciez sam renomowany chorus czy delay kosztuje tyle co cala CS2x.

CS2x dobrze wypelnia swoja role, jesli nikt tej roli nie wyolbrzymi. swietny wybor jako pierwszy zakup dla poczatkujacego (ktory jednak ma jakis stopien zaawansowania i rozumie co to Offset), swietny wybor dla muzyka z otwarta glowa, no i jeszcze raz - swietny wybor dla wszystkich tych, ktorzy chca miec wieczory pelne zabawy z szeroka gama dzwiekow, niekoniecznie o jakosci Kurzweila. Jesli masz troche wiecej kasy, mysle ze CS6x wprowadzi cie na calkiem nowy poziom. Jesli zas masz juz w CV wpisana znajomosc wielu innych modeli syntezatorow, nie sadze zeby akurat ten wywarl na Tobie jakies wrazenie. CS2x to taki telewizyjny POP.
